Our Story

Jeff

Over the past several years, Cheri and I have had a growing sense of frustration. Knowing that God has called us for much more than we have been doing all while feeling that there was nothing that we would be able to scratch the itch that we had. Two years ago after Cheri and I switched churches, we attended a Discipleship Training Course. During this course one of the teachers came up to us and told us what we had been feeling almost word for word and then told us to “get out of our box.” So, for the last couple of years we have been pressing God for exactly what it meant to “get out of our box” - after all I was willing to do anything just as long as I got to keep my “Comfortable” life.

One year ago, one of our friends approached us and said that he had a ministry idea that he would like Cheri and I to head up. We couldn’t believe it. Maybe this was our ticket out of our “Box”. In faith we accepted and began laying the foundation to branch out and pursue this opportunity. As time passed we found that we were injecting our passions into the ministry idea and it was causing conflict. As painful as it was to let go of something that could have meant that we could get out of our routine lives we could not ignore the tugging on our hearts. Continuing to press God as to what we were supposed to do we began to be drawn towards Youth With a Mission (YWAM).

Over the last couple of years, we have been introduced to YWAM and we wished that one day we would be in a position to leave our lives and embark on an adventure with God. After all we have a child and another on the way, a house, student loans, family and a variety of other excuses why we can’t exactly enter into an adventure of saying yes to God, right? I guess I should say here… be careful what you ask God for. His desire is to give us the desires of our heart and for Cheri and Myself that was to pursue God with all that we are no matter where he would lead. So we began to discuss the possibility of YWAM and what it would mean for our family. As we did our research it was clear that YWAM is the next step in our calling. We eventually found the Fire and Fragrance Discipleship Training School (DTS). This DTS has several tracks within it. The two tracks that Cheri and I will be attending are the Compassion Ablaze track and the Media track, each one scratching an itch that we have had for a long time.

In case you didn’t know. Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known. While YWAM’s focus is on youth, they involve people of all ages as well. YWAM currently works in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries.

The DTS is six months of faith-stretching and vision-expanding experience. The course is a full-time program that consists of two parts: a lecture phase and an outreach phase. Our DTS will take place at the main base in Kona, HI and will be three months of full-time training that will be followed up with three months of Outreach. During our lecture phase we will get to know our team and together pray about where God wants us to go on outreach. We of course will let you know as soon as we know where we are going on outreach!

We are so privileged to have the opportunity to step out, take a leap of faith and pursue God’s calling for our lives. We also get the opportunity to involve you in the process by helping fund not only this trip but our long-term future reaching the nations wherever God may call. While we do not know everything that God has called us to yet here is a piece of our vision that we believe that God has called us to.

Our desire is to pursue God where ever he may call us. Every step of the way we will be trusting him to give us direction and we will engage in whatever He us to do. So what is the first step in the process for us? Quite simply, its sell everything and GO. Over the next 4 months Cheri and I will be selling or donating everything that we own so that we can embark on the adventures God has called us to without distractions.

We also need your financial support. We are discovering that embarking into missions with two children has some extra challenges. On top of that Jeff has always used other ministries’ equipment for his video and creative work. This requires that we purchase our own equipment before we go. But more than that we simply want to be able to communicate with you the incredible things that are happening in the world.
